Language extinction stops here.
Language extinction stops here.
Language extinction stops here.
Language extinction stops here.
While facilitating language preservation efforts at the Pala Band of Mission Indians, Speakden’s founder realized a need for a comprehensive language model that can revitalize 164 endangered and 12 extinct Native American languages. To help Indian tribes combat language extinction, we create preschool teacher-training curricula using Natural Language Processing, train teachers to teach preschool fluently through these curricula, and build Native language immersion preschools in tribal communities. In the future, we will safeguard 3,500 languages at-risk globally and rapidly expand to service grades K-5.
Nurturing fluent speakers of endangered and extinct Indigenous languages.
To prevent the extinction of 3,500 languages globally.
Chris is from San Diego, California. For years he was convinced that his only purpose is to write his own poems in his own language: English. However, his language revitalization work with the Pala Band of Mission Indians reminded him, powerfully, that to have one’s language is an oft-unspoken privilege. His passion has evolved beyond his own language to a passion for Language. Chris believes everyone has a spiritual right to share their voice through their heritage tongue.
He holds a BA in English from the University of California, Berkeley, and is currently a Master of Theological Studies degree candidate at Harvard University.
